Officers from the sheriff’s office responded to a grocery store in the 190 block of St. Patrick's Drive in Charles County - twice - late last month to investigate complaints of loitering and possible drug activities.

While responding to the grocery store, officers were able to detain one teen, and while he was being apprehended, another suspect allegedly assaulted the officer before fleeing on foot.

Officials say that the suspect who was detained by officers was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm with an obliterated serial number, a scale, drug-packaging materials, and a half pound of marijuana.

The sheriff’s office consulted with the State’s Attorney’s Office, and the teen was charged as an adult with:

  • Possession of a firearm;
  • Possession with the intent to distribute drugs;
  • Illegal possession of a firearm;
  • Other related charges.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
